Born in Visalia, California in 1962, the second son of Atanacio and Elisa Martin, Santiago spent most of his childhood working, when he wasn’t in school. His first job in agriculture was hand- harvesting fruits and vegetables. From there he moved into mechanical harvest ing of wheat, alfalfa, and other commodities. Next he worked in irrigation & system maintenance and then moved into ranch maintenance, which included discing, cultivating & more. Later on, Santiago moved away from agricultural work, and for a long time worked in various other fields, including oilfield maintenance.
After that Santiago was hired by Berrenda Mesa Water District and soon became the O&M District Superintendent.
By 1995 Santiago had come full-circle and reconnected with his roots. Seeing the need for top-quality labor management resources, he founded Central Valley Contracting, Inc.
